Six-figure Settlement for a Motorcyclist Injured in West Sussex

05 Jan 2026
Motorcycle Accident

Our team have obtained a six-figure settlement for a motorcyclist injured in West Sussex.

Description of the accident

At the time of the accident in November 2023, Mr B was riding his motorcycle from his home in Chichester. As Mr B approached a junction, the Defendant, who was travelling in a motorcar in the opposite direction, suddenly veered into Mr B’s lane. Mr B was unavailable to avoid the crash and collided with the rear of the Defendant’s vehicle. Mr B was thrown off his bike, and his vehicle was written off as a result of the accident.

Mr B was attended by paramedics and taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Whilst in hospital, Mr B was diagnosed as having suffered severe shoulder and pelvic fractures with nerve damage and a build-up of fluid around his lungs. Mr B remained in hospital for a total of 2 months, which included undergoing extensive inpatient rehabilitation. As a result of the accident, Mr B was unable to return to work and was subsequently referred for ill-health retirement.

Dean Wilson’s involvement

Ben Davey, Partner at Dean Wilson LLP, visited Mr B whilst he was still in hospital, and arranged a private rehabilitation case manager, physiotherapy, and psychological treatment for Mr B upon returning home, as well as an early £10,000 payment to compensate Mr B for his loss of earnings. This enabled Mr B to focus on his physical and mental recovery after the accident.

Once Mr B was able to return to driving in September 2024, our team pushed for a further £30,000 interim payment from the Defendant insurer, which allowed Mr B to purchase a car.

The Defendant Solicitors originally made an offer of £190,000 in February 2025.

After meeting with Mr B and advising him that he had good prospects of beating the offer, our team obtained additional expert medical and witness evidence, and were able to elicit a further offer of £338,000; a 177% increase on the Defendant’s original offer, which was accepted.

This substantial settlement figure will compensate Mr B for his lost earnings until retirement and pay for additional future care and treatment costs that Mr B will require as a result of his accident.

Mr B had this to say about Dean Wilson’s personal injury team:

“They steered me through my options with exceptional professionalism. We had the opportunity to meet face to face, which made speaking on Teams so much easier.

Every stage of the process was explained in detail and they pushed to achieve a settlement very close to my expectations.

I would recommend using their expert advice should you need to.”
