Alex Brown successfully represented a client who had an injury caused by an accident at work when they fell from height in a dressage horse riding arena.
The Defendant had sent the client up a ladder in high winds to remove mirror covers in the outdoor arena which got caught in the wind and threw the client to the ground. They suffered paralysis for several weeks in the left arm and leg and seizures for a year as a result of the fall.
The client’s injuries were complex as no immediate cause for the paralysis or seizures could be found. It was eventually established that the injuries were as a result of a mild brain injury and a psychological condition called Conversion Disorder which can be triggered by pain after trauma.
The client made a good recovery after 3 years but was a talented dressage rider and Alex managed to successfully argue for 2 years of loss or earnings for the setback in their career and compensation of over £50,000. The client is now thriving in America, training horses in dressage and has a positive future ahead of them.
